Course Description

ECO 209 is an intermediate course in macroeconomics. The course analyzes basic models to explain how the price level, the interest rate and the level of output and employment are determined. The topics covered are long-term economic growth, short-term business cycle fluctuations, unemployment and economic policy.

Prerequisites

The topics covered in this course heavily rely on the basic tools of microeconomics. ECO 207 (Intermediate Microeconomics) is prerequisite for this reason. Also you are strongly recommended to have some degree of mathematical maturity in Calculus. Students who decide to take this course without having the necessary prerequisites may experience difficulties that could have been avoided.

Requirements and Grades

Your grade will determined by two midterm exams (25% each), one final exam (30%), and quizzes (20%). Throughout the course you will be given 11 (subject to change) quizzes. The quizzes include all material but most of its content will be similar to the assigned problem set reviewed during the recitation section. When computing your grade, I will drop 3 worst quizzes. Quizzes will be given in class at the beginning of class. See the schedule below.

Textbooks are reserved at the Rush Rhees reserve stack.
