Text: Introduction to Economics, Stockman

This course is an introduction to Economics. We will be covering both Micro and Macro aspects of Economics (see course outline). My primary goal is for you to come away from this class with an understanding of the way economists think and approach problems. Economics is an exciting field, I hope that you enjoy this course.

  1. ATTENDANCE:

You are responsible for all information that is given out in class. If you miss a class, get notes from a classmate. I do not give out my class notes. There will not be class on March 9, March 11, and April 8.

  2. GRADING:

    Midterm 1

    25%
    Midterm 2 25%
    Final Exam 50%
  3. EXAMS:

There will be two midterm exams. They are scheduled for February 18 and March 30, in Lower Strong Auditorium. There will be no makeups for the midterm exams. Under extenuating circumstances, which must be verifiable, I will allow the final exam to count as 75% of your grade. These cases must be cleared with me PRIOR to the exam. The final exam is cumulative and will be May 6, 4-7pm, location to be announced at a later date. Under extenuating circumstances, which must be verifiable, there will be a make up final scheduled following the end of the semester. In these cases you must talk to me PRIOR to the final exam to obtain an incomplete for the course. Once the make up exam is taken, a grade will be given.
  4. HOMEWORK:

There are 11 homework assignments. These homeworks are posted on the course website. They are not required, but will be discussed in the weekly recitation sections. My exams are similar to my assignments, so it is in your best interest to do them.
  5. TEACHING ASSISTANTS AND RECITATIONS:

Teaching assistant office hours and recitation sections will be available on the website as soon as I get them. I encourage you to attend the weekly recitations where the homeworks will be discussed in an informal manner. If you are struggling with any of the material in the class, this is the first place to go for help. The teaching assistants will also be available for office hours throughout the week.
